Stephen J. Driscoll Philadelphia
Stephen J. Driscoll practices in all fields of intellectual property law, including litigation, counseling, and patent and trademark procurement.
Mr. Driscoll has experience in working closely with management to optimize IP assets. In this role, Mr. Driscoll has enhanced clients’ competitiveness by developing patent positions on key technologies and by incorporating IP into business development strategies. His experience includes the execution of successful licensing programs where he has identified underutilized IP, prospected potential licensees, and closed deals. He has also counseled companies on how to avoid infringing the patent rights of others.
Mr. Driscoll has developed a novel approach to outsourcing in-house IP counsel where smaller tech-based companies can optimize their management of IP assets by having an outsourced “in-house” attorney at a fraction of the usual cost.
In addition to his in-house experience, Mr. Driscoll is well-versed in all aspects of prosecution including post-issuance proceedings, and in counseling including validity, freedom-to-operate and due diligence opinions.
Mr. Driscoll’s litigation experience includes recently being lead counsel in a jury trial in which a verdict of willful patent infringement was retuned for his client.
Mr. Driscoll has extensive experience in the fiber optic, software and chemical arts.
Prior to attending law school, Mr. Driscoll was an engineer for Reliance Electronic, where he focused on application of power electronics, digital control technologies and machinery in the chemical, paper and steel industries.
Mr. Driscoll earned a J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law, an M.B.A. in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh, and a B.S. in chemical engineering from Lehigh University.
He is currently chairman of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association and a member of the Philadelphia Intellectual Property Law Association. He is also on the IP Advisory Board for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. Mr. Driscoll has also lectured extensively on a variety of IP related subjects in continuing legal education seminars.
Mr. Driscoll joined Synnestvedt & Lechner LLP as an associate in 1996 and became a partner in 2001.
