John A. Chionchio specializes in intellectual property matters that relate to the mechanical, aeronautical, and aerospace arts. His areas of expertise include dynamics of aircraft and spacecraft structures, composite materials, machine design, finite element analysis and optics. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Chionchio was employed as an engineer in the space systems division of the General Electric Company. Mr. Chionchio earned undergraduate degrees in physics from Franklin and Marshall College (B.A. cum laude, 1978), where he was named to the national honor societies of Sigma Pi Sigma and Phi Beta Kappa, and in civil engineering from Columbia University (B.S., 1979), where he was named to the engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi. He earned his graduate degree in civil engineering from Drexel University (M.S., 1992) and his law degree from Temple University (J.D., cum laude, 1997). He also earned his post-baccalaureate certificate in computer science from Arcadia University (1984). Mr. Chionchio is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Mr. Chionchio is a professional engineer registered in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Mr. Chionchio joined Synnestvedt & Lechner LLP as scientific advisor in 1995 and became a partner in 2004.
